Serve912 is Georgia Southern’s local service initiative. We engage with the community year-round through regularly scheduled volunteer trips, ongoing community service activities (like Sculpt-It! Canned Food Drive and Holiday Helper Tree), and meeting local needs as part of the Director’s Immediate Response Team (DIRT).
Serve912 Weekly Trips provide students with weekly opportunities to volunteer. Transportation is provided – all you need to do is sign-up and show up! Students sign up on a week-to-week basis so you can try different trips or take a week off if you need to!

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Be sure to check out our #GoLead newsletter for additional ways to serve.
We have dozens of local organizations that NEED YOUR HELP! You can explore our Community Partner’s Page to see organizations with ongoing opportunities to volunteer. These are great for groups or individuals, and you can participate as few or as many times as you would like. All of the information you should need is available on the page linked above.
Don’t forget to log your hours in Eagle Engage after you volunteer!*
Director’s Immediate Response Team (DIRT)
The Director’s Immediate Response Team (DIRT) is a team of Georgia Southern students ready to address one-time, labor-intensive, and/or urgent projects in the community (such as painting, re-organizing, and sudden needs for repair). The DIRT volunteer list is open to all Georgia Southern students. Students interested in receiving DIRT alerts or who would like more information should contact email@example.com.
Join the DIRT Team today by texting @DIRTDIRE to 81010!
Step into Statesboro
Step Into Statesboro is an annual fall event designed to introduce new and returning students to the downtown Statesboro area, its history, and community service opportunities. The day begins with an introduction to your tour group and a brief overview of Statesboro history. You will then head to one of Statesboro’s historic parks to meet long time residents and hear real stories from our history! The day continues with a scavenger hunt of important sites in downtown Statesboro, and concludes with lunch and reflection at the Soup Kitchen. We want you to leave feeling excited about being a part of the Statesboro community! Sign up here!
Holiday Helper Tree
The Holiday Helper Tree is a Georgia Southern tradition! Each November, the event kicks-off with the lighting of the tree, and students, faculty, and staff pull tags off of it. Each tag represents someone in our community who needs a gift, and may not receive anything without our help. You can get involved by giving a gift – just pull a tag from the tree! You can pull as many tags as you would like, or your organization can choose to adopt one of the families on the tree. You can also help by donating graft wrapping supplies to help Holiday Helper Tree Partners wrap the gifts before delivering them.
Starting in Fall 2020, the Holiday Helper Tree became virtual. To learn more or to visit the virtual tree and pull a tag, click the button below!
