Corine Ackerson-Jones 

Director of the Armstrong Campus’ TRiO Student Support Services Program

Ms. Corine Ackerson-Jones serves as Director of the Armstrong Campus’ TRiO Student Support Services program. In that capacity she oversees operations, provides leadership and supervises professional staff. Mrs. Ackerson-Jones also makes final admission decisions and is an academic advisor for TRiO participants. She joined Armstrong State University in 2006 as an academic advisor. Prior to taking the position with TRiO in 2016, she served as Coordinator of Recruitment and Retention for the College of Health Professions at Armstrong State University. She received her B.S. and Master of Education from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR.

Thomas Bullock, Ed.D.

Retention Specialist

Dr. Thomas Bullock is the Retention Specialist and Tutor for TRiO Student Support Services. He is a former TRiO Upward Bound participant. Dr. Bullock earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Xavier University of Louisiana. As a mathematics professor, Dr. Bullock has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses. He is nationally recognized for his success in helping first-generation and low income students succeed in college. Dr. Bullock earned his doctorate in Higher Education Management and Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. He is founder and CEO of the nonprofit LEADERS, Inc.

Jessica Simmons

Administrative Assistant III

Mrs. Jessica M. Simmons may be new to the administrative assistance position but not new to TRIO Programs. She was a student in both the Talent Search and the Upward Bound programs. Mrs. Simmons is a 2008 Cum Laude graduate of Savannah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Mrs. Simmons provides administrative support to all TRiO team members. She also collects, reviews and  analyzes complex and/or confidential data and prepares reports, charts, and other presentation materials.

Linnea Schrantz

Academic Success Coach

Linnea Schrantz is the Academic Success Coach for TRIO Student Support Services. Mrs. Schrantz has a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Stevenson University and has worked in other higher education institutions such as Stevenson University and Savannah State University. Linnea Schrantz specializes in Appreciative Advising, metacognitive learning strategies, and growth mindset. Through her position, Mrs. Schrantz works with students at an individual level to help them foster academic growth and success.
