Campus Wellbeing


We strive to foster a culture of wellness that champions an environment focused on the whole person, whole educational experience, and whole institution resulting in shared responsibility for the entire campus. Therefore, there are many places on campus for students to learn about and improve their overall wellbeing.


Mental health has a direct impact on academic success and it is important to cultivate practices that support emotional well-being. The Counseling Center at Georgia Southern University is a place where students can go to receive services and participate in programs that are designed to help them handle day-to-day challenges and encourage their personal growth and development. The Counseling Center offers Individual and Group Therapy, along with drop in services like Emotional Wisdom, Sleep Clinic, and Mindful Yoga.

Your Physical Wellbeing is important for optimal health and functioning. There are many elements of your physical wellbeing that all must be cared for together. Prevention and management of illness play a role in your body’s ability to function optimally. Health Services offers students the ability to maintain or improve their physical health through annual check ups and vaccinations. Should students fall ill, their team of Medical Doctors and Nurse Practitioners are able to medically treat the student. Additional services offered at Health Services include, Optometry, Physical Therapy, Psychiatry, and a Pharmacy.

Physical activity and prevention of illness play a role in your body’s ability to function optimally. Campus Recreation & Intramurals (CRI) offers numerous avenues for students to be physically active, while also learning different forms of recreation and interacting with others. Fitness, Aquatics, Intramurals, Group Fitness, Southern Adventures, Club Sports, Shooting Sports, and Golf are all programs offered at the Recreation Activity Center, Student Recreation Center, University Park Golf Course, and the Shooting Sports Education Center.

Developing yourself and giving to others are essential to your ability to thrive on and off campus. Leadership and Community Engagement offers a variety of ways students can develop leadership skills and contribute to the campus and the Statesboro and Savannah community. Serve912, the Student Leadership Conference, and Alternative Break trips are just a few of their programs where students have the opportunity to meet new people, build relationships, learn new skills and serve others.

Creating a sense of belonging contributes to one’s ability to thrive and succeed in college. Student Activities offers numerous engagement opportunities for students to meet new people and have fun. The University Programming Board is housed here and creates opportunities for campus entertainment

Everyone needs an advocate. The Dean of Students office serves as an advocate for students while at college. Life can be very stressful and interfere with academic success. The Dean of Students office offers assistance finding resources or navigating stressful situations. These stressful situations may include, but are not limited to, death of an immediate family member, loss of shelter, food insecurity, safety concerns, and communication with faculty members.

A nutritious diet is a vital part of overall wellbeing. Eagle Dining offers a variety of dining locations and payment plans to support students in their quest to eat healthy. Salads, lean proteins, whole grains, fruits and vegetables can be found at every dining location on campus. Additionally, the “No Whey” station at Dining Commons ensures students have food options that make food allergies or dietary restrictions a priority.

Job placement is a major player in the decision to go to college. Therefore, it can carry significant stress for students. Career Services offers Career Counselors, Resume assistance, Mock Interviews, Personality Tests, and more to help students prepare for their career after graduation.

Performing well academically can improve self confidence, provide growth, and improve stress levels. The Academic Success Center offers support for students through tutors, workshops, study tips, and peer mentors. Their Peer Mentors receive training from Student Wellness & Health Promotion in order to support students overall wellbeing in order to be successful academically.
