June Professional Development Sessions

The Student Learning Imperative: Lessons from Learning Reconsidered

Facilitators: Dr. Melanie Miller and Dr. Ken Gassiot
This session will focus on key principles from Learning Reconsidered and will examine the critical role that student affairs plays in supporting student learning and student success. We will explore: how learning outcomes can be used to support a learner-centered environment; consider campus culture and examine assumptions about what works; and develop a common language around transformative learning.

The More We Work Together:  Strategies to Improve Collaboration

Facilitators: Takeshia Brown and Dr. Dare Chronister
In this session, we will define and discuss collaboration as a means of providing more effective programming for students. The session will include strategies for efficient and effective collaborative efforts within our division and across the institution to aid us in becoming partners in education.

Student Learning Outcomes & Assessment: Beginning with the end in mind

Facilitators: Dr. Mark Whitesel and Dr. Gemma Skuraton
Maybe you are a person with extensive experience developing student learning outcomes and employing the tools of assessment.  Maybe this is all new to you and you want to learn more.  Maybe you are somewhere in between, with a good understanding and you are ready to engage in a good refresher with your colleagues.  Wherever you may fall on this student learning outcomes and assessment path, this session will be practical for all of us and our work as we embrace the journey toward developing ways to tell the story, our student affairs story.
