At Military & Veteran Services our fulfillment is to take care of our students. We will continue to use a variety of techniques to ensure that you have access to the benefits and resources you need to continue at Georgia Southern. We are committed to serving the needs of our military-connected population. While also having the privilege and responsibility of providing resources and VA Benefits to our Active-Duty and Veteran students.

Due to the physical distancing measures being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many of us are relying on video conferencing to stay connected. To keep you in the loop, and answer your time-sensitive questions, we have launched a Virtual Appointment Service here on our Military Website.

Below you will find a Virtual Appointment Calendar, to request a meeting with one of our team members. These appointment slots are 1 on 1 meetings, much like the in-office visits. We will also continue to monitor accounts, process benefits, and answer any questions you may have via email and phone call.

COVID-19 is not over, and our team will continue focusing on making it easier for you and provide the highest level of support.

We’ve got your six,

Military & Veteran Services

Certificate of Eligibility (FAQ)

I haven’t received my Certificate of Eligibility yet. Is there another way to document my approval?

Yes. If the application was made online, students may print the affirmation page from their Ebenefits account that confirms their status. This serves the same purpose as a COE. (We can also call the VA Depart. for verbal verification if time permits)

When I receive my Certificate of Eligibility, what do I do with it?

We advise students to scan their COE into an email to us at mvs@georgiasouthern.edu. Please include your Eagle ID, campus location, and the term you wish to utilize the benefits in the email.

Benefits Request (FAQ)

Has my application been processed by the VA?

Our office can fax the VA a student’s application for benefits. The student will need to contact the VA for the status of their application: 888-442-4551.

When will I know that your office has submitted my hours?

Students will receive an automated reply email from the VA Once program in their Georgia Southern email account indicating submissions made by our office.

When will I receive payments?

Once a student’s enrollment hours have been certified (submitted), payments are usually received around the beginning of the month for the month prior. Students are encouraged to contact the VA for specific timelines concerning their payments since our office does not have access to this information: 888-442-4551.

The VA hasn’t paid yet…will I be dropped from my classes?

For our students utilizing the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33). If your student account invoice is equal to the amount the VA will be paying, then you will not be dropped from your classes. For questions about other benefits and the Nelnet payment plan, please contact the Bursar’s Office at bursar@georgiasouthern.edu or Enrollment Services at 912-478-3675.

Can I receive benefits after the term has started?

Yes. When our office certifies the hours for a student, the term dates are also submitted. If a student’s approved eligibility dates include past terms, a student may elect to request that those terms be certified.

How do I change the account to which my funds are sent?

Students will need to contact the VA’s direct deposit line with the new account information: 877-838-2778.

When will I receive payments?

Once a student’s enrollment hours have been certified (submitted), payments are usually received around the beginning of the month for the month prior. Students are encouraged to contact the VA for specific timelines concerning their payments since our office does not have access to this information: 888-442-4551

How much will the VA pay?

The amount varies based on the benefit the student is using. For chapter 33 students, we can calculate how much tuition payment is expected from the VA. Keep in mind, we do not have access to direct deposit amounts for any student.
