Fall 2013 Interns Present footballs to Legislators

IMG_4914 (1)Eagles in DC Intern, Amber Montrose, presented United States Senator Johnny Isakson with a Georgia Southern football autographed by head football coach, Jeff Monken. Montrose, senior modern languages major, interned in Senator Isakson’s office during the Fall 2013 semester. She shared that Senator Isakson was very excited to receive this gift and has proudly displayed the football on the corner of his desk.

Montrose is working directly with legislative research aids in Isakson’s office and appreciates how everyone in the office is more like a family than just co-workers. Unique to Montrose’s experience has been the debate about budget and the government shutdown. She shares it was exciting to be part of the conversation.

P12003962Brianna Brown, senior multimedia communications, also presented Congressman John Lewis with a Georgia Southern football autographed by Jeff Monken. Brown was a Fall 2013 Eagles in DC intern in Congressman Lewis’s office and shared that her experience has been filled with memories she will never forget. Brown attended the 50th March on Washington with Congressman Lewis who is a civil rights pioneer and the last living speaker from the first March on Washington. As an intern, Brown has planned panels for conferences and television not only utilizing her academic experience but providing the opportunity to meet important figures such as Rosa Parks.

DSC_0367 (1)Jud Conkle presented the Eagle football to his congressman John Barrow. Conkle intern with Congressman Barrow’s office this semester and made many valuable connections which will support his future.

The Eagles in DC internship is part of the Legislative Internship Program which provides qualified students with internship opportunities in Washington, D.C. and the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
