Requirements and Eligibility

To register in Georgia, you must:

  • be a citizen of the United States
  • be a legal resident of Georgia and of the county in which you want to vote
  • be 18 years old within six months after the day of registration, and be 18 years old to vote
  • not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
  • not have been judicially determined to be mentally incompetent, unless the disability has been removed

In-person voter ID requirements:

If you are voting in person in Georgia (including voting early), you must present one of the following forms of ID at the time you vote:

  • Georgia driver’s license, even if expired
  • Georgia voter ID or other ID card issued by the State of Georgia, any other state, or the US government
  • Employee photo ID issued by the US government, Georgia government, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other Georgia government entity
  • Valid US passport ID
  • Valid US military photo ID
  • Student photo ID card issued by a Georgia public college, university, or technical school
  • Valid tribal photo ID

Absentee voter ID requirements:

If you’re not voting for the first time in Georgia, you don’t need to provide ID to vote by mail.

If you’re a first-time Georgia voter who registered by mail and did not provide ID when you registered, you’ll need to provide a copy of one of the following forms of ID along with your mail ballot:

  • Georgia driver’s license
  • Georgia voter ID or other ID card issued by the State of Georgia, any other state, or the US government
  • Employee photo ID issued by the US government, Georgia government, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other Georgia government entity
  • Valid US passport
  • Valid US military photo ID
  • Student photo ID card issued by a Georgia public college, university, or technical school
  • Valid tribal photo ID
  • A current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address
