Our Employer Guide was created to serve as a useful tool for organizations wanting to begin recruiting at Georgia Southern and increase their brand awareness. You’ll find information about our university and its programs, our career fairs and events, and our recruitment policies and best practices.

To get started, reach out to one of our Employer Relations team members or connect with us on Handshake.

Attend a Career Fair

Each semester the Office of Career and Professional Development hosts multiple career fairs, events and programming to assist employers in connecting with students and alumni. To register or for more information about these events, log in to Handshake or visit our Recruitment Events page.

Information Sessions

Information Sessions are a great tool for new employers recruiting on campus as well as companies who are familiar with Georgia Southern University to reach qualified candidates. Info sessions are designed to give candidates basic company information, e.g. demographics, culture, future organizational plans, job information, benefits and company history.

Information Session Tips:
  • Information Sessions can typically be held in a variety of locations across the Georgia Southern campuses. The Employer Relations team will work to find the best location with a room that fits your needs. To best serve you, please indicate needs such as technology, size, etc.
  • In order to market your information session to students, the Office of Career and Professional Development can advertise on our website, through social media and a variety of other mediums campus-wide. For more information, please visit our Increase Brand Awareness page.
  • While any style of presenting is acceptable for your information session, previous employers have found success in relaxed, informal conversations with students.
  • Food is a great way to spark more interest in your information session. While we do not require that employers provide snacks, food service can be coordinated through Georgia Southern catering or through a local restaurant. For a list of accommodating restaurants please contact the Assistant Director of Employer Relations.

Interview Students

The Office of Career and Professional Development at Georgia Southern University offers a variety of methods to connect with students through on-campus recruitment.  All of the options below can be requested through Handshake.  These visits can be made in conjunction with a career fair, other event or as needed per an employer’s recruitment cycle.  Please contact the office if you have any questions about scheduling an on-campus recruitment visit.

On-Campus Interviews

Your organization can schedule a time to come to campus and conduct interviews for full-time, co-op and internship positions. There are three different options for interview schedules at Georgia Southern University: PreselectOpen and Room Only. To schedule an on-campus interview, you will need to log into your Handshake account. You can select to interview all day or just half a day. Employers also have the choice of interview length; this will determine how many interviews you have during the day.

Interval Start Time End Time # of Students Interviewed
30 minutes 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. 13
45 minutes 8:30 a.m. 4:45 p.m. 9
60 minutes 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. 7
Pre-Select Interviews

This type of schedule allows recruiters to select from submitted résumés prior to the interview date. Students who are chosen will have the opportunity to sign up for an interview time-slot.

Open Interview Schedules

Open interviews allow students to sign up for interviews on a first-come, first-served basis. Students do have to meet the recruiter’s requirements before they can sign up.

Room Only Schedules

Recruiters have the opportunity to reserve a room only and will be responsible for filling up their own schedules. Many recruiters pick these students from career fairs, information sessions or résumé referrals. Only students and alumni from Georgia Southern University are allowed to interview at the Office of Career and Professional Development.

Confirmation Packets

After you have scheduled your interview on Handshake, you will receive a Confirmation Packet via email (at the address attached to your name in Handshake). This packet includes confirmation of dates and locations of interviews, a parking pass and driving directions to the campus. If you require additional parking passes, please let us know as soon as possible.

Changing or Canceling Schedules

Changing or canceling a schedule can be accommodated if provided within 48 hours before the interview date. Changes made within 48 hours of the date may affect the number of students participating in the recruitment visit. If a visit must be canceled, please let the Office of Career and Professional Development know as soon as possible.

To schedule your interviews, please log into Handshake and submit a request. Your request will be approved within 48 business hours.
