Civic Engagement

The Office of Leadership and Community Engagement strives to provide students with opportunities to serve at the local, national, and international level. Through providing these opportunities to make a difference in the community and to be part of something that is bigger than oneself, the office aims to instill the idea of lifelong active citizenship in the students of Georgia Southern University.

Developed by Break Away, a national nonprofit aimed at supporting the development of quality alternative break programs, the Active Citizen Continuum provides an illustration of a person’s development as a civically engaged individual. The ultimate goal is for the community to become a priority in students’ values and life choices and thus developing into an active citizen. Students can develop into active citizens through experiences with direct service, intentional education, and meaningful reflections.
