Solicitation - Vendors
University property, although recognized as state property, is considered to be “specialized use” state property and therefore subject to reasonable restrictions and guidelines designed to foster the purposes to which the institution is dedicated. The following rules are promulgated in order to enhance the purposes of the educational institution, and at the same time to protect the individual rights of students and those members of the general public wishing to avail students the opportunity to purchase their services or goods.

  1. Prospective vendors may purchase a mailing label printout from the University listing all enrolled students and their campus post office box addresses. Interested parties should contact the Registrar’s Office.
NOTE: Those students, who have requested in writing that their names not be given out, will not appear on such a printout. Vendors may also purchase advertisements in the University’s student newspaper.

  2. Vendors may consummate sales on campus, including students’ private rooms in residence halls, on a one-on-one basis provided the vendor had received an individual invitation from the prospective client prior to the time and place of the sales transaction. Group demonstrations and group sales transactions in conjunction with such one-to-one sales are prohibited.

  3. No private individual, student, or non-resident student may conduct a sales campaign in residence halls, classrooms, administrative buildings, or any other campus location. Door-to-door sales are prohibited. Nothing herein shall be construed as prohibiting commercial solicitation to individual students by telephone or mail.
NOTE: For regulations concerning solicitation on campus by individuals, please refer to the Student Conduct Code, Regulation No. 22.
