HOMECOMING 2015
October 12-17

Homecoming week at Georgia Southern University is an experience and tradition the students have looked forward to for decades. The Spirit & Traditions committee brings organizations together on campus to enjoy the tradition of homecoming through spirited events and memorable moments. The week consists of noontime and evening events on campus, along with the parade and celebration at the end of the week, and the crowning of king and queen during halftime at the football game on Saturday. Working for months on end, they facilitate all of the events and partner with countless others to guarantee an unforgettable homecoming for alumni, students, and the surrounding community.

The student org participation packet registration process will open via MyInvolvement on Monday, August 24th at 10:00pm (after Day 6).
Please note: ALL orgs/individuals wishing to participate in ANY Homecoming event must attend meetings as follows:

  • Captains Meetings: Must designate at least two people from your organization to serve as the official point of contact for Homecoming participation. Collaborating orgs must have one Captain from each organization. Click here for a schedule.

Monday, October 12th
Banner Competition
-Student organizations design theme related banners that will hang on the pedestrian through the week of Homecoming.  

Paint the Campus Blue
-Student organizations and campus departments paint theme related displays on the windows around campus and in the community to compete for spirit points.

Pennies for Eagles
(by Fraternity & Sorority Life)
11:00 am -1 :00 pm
Russell Union Rotunda
-Students will raise money throughout Homecoming Week in support of Eagles for Eagles. There will be a twist each day. Money will be donated at each noontime event.

Royalty Candidate Voting
-Be sure to vote for your favorite King, Queen, Duke and Duchess candidates. Voting will be all day on MyInvolvement.

SGA Idol
(by Student Government Association)
7:00 pm
Hanner Fieldhouse
-Be the next GSU star, show the campus who you really are! Students can compete to in a sing off to become the new GSU Idol!  Tickets will be $5 in advance and $7 at the door.  Students, be sure to bring your student ID!

Tuesday, October 13th
Royalty Candidate Voting
-Be sure to vote for your favorite King, Queen, Duke and Duchess candidates.  Voting will be all day on MyInvolvement.

T-Shirt Swap
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

-Students can exchange non-Georgia Southern University collegiate apparel for a brand new, Georgia Southern Homecoming t-shirt! Don’t have a collegiate t-shirt to swap? Simply pay $2 and you can own one!  Remember to bring your Eagle ID. Only 175 t-shirts swapped per day!  Be sure to get there early!

Comedian: TBA
7:00 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm)
Hanner Fieldhouse
Looking for some laughs? Join the University Programming Board for a performance that is sure to be an amazing show! This performance is free with your Eagle ID!  

Wednesday, October 14th

Sidewalk Competition
Paulson Stadium Sidewalk near main entrance
-Student organizations and campus departments chalk the road in front of the main gate at Paulson Stadium to compete for spirit points. This will be displayed the week of Homecoming

Pennies for Eagles

Sculpt-It for the Food Bank
(by Office of Leadership and Community Engagement)
11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Russell Union Commons
Student organizations bring canned goods and create sculptures related to the Homecoming theme in support of the Statesboro Food Bank and compete with other organizations to win spirit points!  All canned items will then be donated to the Statesboro Food Bank.

T-Shirt Swap
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Russell Union Rotunda
-Students can exchange non-Georgia Southern University collegiate apparel for a brand new, Georgia Southern Homecoming t-shirt! Doo-Dah Dance and Step Show
7:00 pm
Hanner Fieldhouse
-Finally back at Hanner!  A dance show like no other! Student organizations compete in different categories including step, “doo-dah”, and dance for spirit points and prizes!

Thursday, October 15th
Screaming Eagles
(by University Housing)

Williams Center Multipurpose Room
-Come out and enjoy a lip sync competition you will not forget. Bring your Eagle ID!

Parade

From the College of Education to Sweetheart Circle
-Student organizations, campus departments, and members of the community enter parade floats, Krazy Kars, and characters in a spirit-filled parade.

Celebration
5:00 pm – 8:00 pm (immediately following the parade)
Sweetheart Circle
-Following the parade, a celebration with games, activities, and food will serve as the backdrop to the announcement of the 2015 Homecoming Court crowning the Duke and Duchess, and the winners of this year’s spirit point competition!

Outdoor Movie: TBA
8:15 pm (sunset)
Sweetheart Circle
-End the day at a free outdoor movie on Sweetheart Circle. Free for everyone! Students, bring your Eagle ID!  Rain location will be the Russell Union Theater at 8:30 pm.

Saturday, October 17th
True Blue 5K/10K
(by Campus Recreation & Intramurals)

Recreation Activities Center (RAC)
-Students and community members can stay active and participate in this years True Blue 5K/10K all while sporting their Georgia Southern University colors and apparel.  Visit georgiasouthern.edu/cri for registration information.

Crowning of Homecoming King & Queen

-Two students, nominated by their organization and voted for by their peers will be crowned the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen!
