Homecoming 2017

HOMECOMING 2017
October 9-14

Homecoming week at Georgia Southern University is an experience and tradition the students have looked forward to for decades. The Spirit & Traditions committee brings organizations together on campus to enjoy the tradition of homecoming through spirited events and memorable moments. The week consists of noontime and evening events on campus, along with the parade and celebration towards the end of the week, and the crowning of king and queen during halftime at the football game on Saturday. Working for months on end, they facilitate all of the events and partner with countless others to guarantee an unforgettable homecoming for alumni, students, and the surrounding community.

Parade

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13:
Parade ft. Grand Marshal: Dr. Patrice Jackson, Dean of Students
Parade
(by Office of Student Activities)
-Student organizations, campus departments, and members of the community enter parade floats, Krazy Kars, and characters in a spirit-filled parade.

Start Time: 4:00pm (will hit Sweetheart Circle at approx. 4:15 pm)
Parade Route: From Lot 42 (College of Education) to Sweetheart Circle.
Traffic Notes from Parking and Transportation:
-Permit requirements for campus will end at noon. This will provide flexibility for campus members to park outside their regular areas.
-Lot 42 permit holders will be asked to vacate the area by 2pm, with the understanding that they can park elsewhere around campus beginning at noon. Anyone who cannot relocate during that window will be asked to park at Paulson Stadium or the RAC on arrival in order to keep their vehicle out of the area.
-Signage will be placed at all entranceways with the 2pm cutoff.
-As usual, parking will end on Sweetheart Circle beginning at noon.
-Signage will be placed at all entrance ways and upon all sign poles within.
-Traffic flow through the upper half of Sweetheart Circle will end by 3pm, also as usual.
-We cannot properly dictate a handicap parking area for public. Users may seek out any open and available handicap parking in the surrounding areas. Lot 11 is a feasible alternative but at user risk. They could park in Lot 11 and use the Herty Drive pedestrian roadbed, but I don’t think it meets ADA grading. Again, it would be at user risk.
-Handicap spaces are located on the campus map.
