Attendance Verification Information and Instructions

Federal regulations require the University to confirm that students are attending class before financial aid will be released to the students.  Attendance must be verified for all students regardless of whether or not the student is receiving financial aid.  Students will not receive aid for and will be dropped from classes for which attendance is not verified.

The attendance verification is done through Faculty WINGS. Faculty must submit attendance verification for each class being taught or supervised by the instructor including directed study, thesis, practicums, and internships. Faculty may view all classes assigned to them through their Faculty WINGS schedule. Faculty may use the Detail Class List or Summary Class List available on Faculty WINGS under the Faculty Services menu for checking the attendance for the students enrolled in their classes. To expedite the attendance verification process, a printable "Attendance Verification Sign-in Sheet" is available in the Faculty Services menu in WINGS for faculty to print and circulate to their class to sign-in. This document would then be used as the source document for entering the attendance information in the "Attendance Form" which is also available in the Faculty Services menu in WINGS.

Faculty who are teaching a viedo conferencing class may fax the "Attendance Verification Sign-in Sheet" to the remote site and have students sign those sheets and fax them back. For online (internet) courses, faculty can verify as attending students who log into their WebCT class. If faculty require students to send an introductory e-mail or participate in a chat, this participation may be used as evidence of attendance.

The "Attendance Form" has a speed button entitled "check all attended". By clicking this button, the attendance indicator box beside each student's name will be populated with a check mark to indicate that the student is attending. Faculty should change the indicator for those not attending by removing the check mark from the indicator block beside the student's name. Once the faculty member has completed entering the attendance information, they should click on the "Submit Attendance Verification to Registrar" button.

Important: As the faculty member completes the "Attendance Form," you must click on the "Submit Attendance Verification to Registrar" button on each page of the listing of students. Failure to do so will not complete the submission of attendance information.

If a student is added to your class or a student starts attending after the faculty member submits the attendance information, the instructor may go back to the "Attendance Form" and submit the updated information for that student.

If additional assistance in submitting attendance information is needed, you should contact the WINGS helpline at 478-0735 or email WINGS@georgiasouthern.edu.

Faculty WINGS training sessions for new faculty and for faculty who want to review the attendance verification process in WINGS may be scheduled by contacting WINGS at wings@georgiasouthern.edu or 478-0735.
