Application Procedures

How Do I Apply for Benefits?

If you've decided to attend Georgia Southern University and have been admitted or are in the process of being admitted to the university, follow these steps:
  1. Check in with the VA coordinator at Georgia Southern:  (912) 478-5154  or  sdaniels@georgiasouthern.edu (Note: The VA coordinator is not a VA employee)
  2. Complete the application package for VA benefits and sent it to the appropriate VA regional office or have the coordinator help you with this step. We can send the application package for you, including your application and certification of your enrollment. It's a good idea because you may avoid delay in getting your benefits started if VA receives everything needed at the same time. The package consists of:
    • Your completed application, appropirate to the chapter for which you are applying. (If you are on active duty, you must have your base Educational Services Officer certify your application by signing in the appropriate box.)
    • Supporting documents such as - Kicker Contract, DD 214, Birth Certificate, Buy Up Contract, etc
    • Certification of your enrollment - the VA coordinator must send this information to VA.
  3. If you have already applied for MGIB benefits and received a Certificate of Eligibility, please bring this document to the VA Coordinator to complete the process.
