7:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. Georgia Southern Planetarium - What is the Fate of the Universe? Scientists using modern telescopes have measured the afteglow of the Big Bang, determined the age of the universe, and discovered that un unexplained force we call "dark energy" is changing our universe, causing it to expand at an increasing rate. Find out what "dark energy" is and how it will influence the fate of the universe. Telescopic observing outdoors following the presentation if weather allows. Free sky and moon maps will be given to all visitors to enjoy exploring the sky from their backyards with family and friends. Please join us for a beautiful evening under the stars at the Georgia Southern Planetarium. Free event sponsored by the Department of Physics, all ages welcome. The planetarium is located in the Math/Physics Building across Herty Drive from Hanner Field house between the University Honors Program House and Biology Building. Flight Show - Georgia Southern Raptor Center Five beautiful acres in the heart of the campus is the setting for The Center for Wildlife Education and The Lamar Q Ball, Jr. Raptor Center. A self-guided boardwalk tour winds through habitats, including a wetlands area, an old-growth forest, and a mountain display. This provides an opportunity to view our native raptors in their natural environments. An elevated walkway allows visitors an unobstructed and up-close encounter with a Bald Eagle nest, complete with a live Eagle! An amphitheater, which seats 150 people, is used for live “wildlife programs” and “flight shows.” Saturday hours at the Center are 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a scheduled reptile show at 2:00 p.m. and raptor show at 3:00 p.m. |

Botanical Garden Visit - Georgia Southern Botanical Gardens Centered on an early 20th century farmstead, Georgia Southern Botanical Gardens offer visitors a unique view of the cultural and natural heritage of the southeastern coastal plain, an area rich in unique and endangered plants. The Garden's nearly 11 acre site, located in the middle of the growing city of Statesboro, includes walking woodland trails, the Bland Cottage Visitor Center, Heritage Garden, Rose Arbor, Children's Vegetable Garden, Camellia Garden, Native Plant Landscape Garden, Native Azalea Collection and Bog Garden. Admission to the Garden is FREE. Gates are open daily, 9 a.m. to dusk; Bland Cottage Visitor Center is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. |
