Georgia Southern's McNair Program has actively sought talented undergraduate students since 1999. The purpose of the McNair Program is to increase graduate degree attainment for students from segments of society that are underrepresented in certain academic disciplines. Each academic year, our program prepares fifteen participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly engagements. Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement program is designed to encourage low-income students and minority undergraduates to consider careers in university teaching as well as prepare them for doctoral study. Students who participate in this program are provided with research opportunities and faculty mentors. This program was named in honor of Dr. Ronald E. McNair, the astronaut who died in the 1986 "Challenger" space-shuttle explosion. Currently, there are 179 programs, serving more than 4,100 students and across the country. |
