TRIO McNAIR PROGRAM

Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement programs are designed to encourage low-income students and minority undergraduates to consider careers in college teaching as well as prepare for doctoral study. Students who participate in this program are provided with research opportunities and faculty mentors. This program was named in honor of the astronaut that died in the 1986 space-shuttle explosion. Currently, there are 179 programs, serving 4,100 students across the country.

Georgia Southern's McNair Program has actively sought talented undergraduate students since 1999. The purpose of the McNair Program is to increase graduate degree attainment for students from segments of society that are underrepresented in certain academic disciplines. Each academic year, our program prepares fifteen participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.
