From 1931 to 1951, our campus benefited from the tireless labor and exuberant charisma of comptroller Robert L. “Mr. Bob” Winburn (1884-1965). A native of Gainesville, Georgia, “Mr. Bob” came to Georgia Teachers College following a career in banking and agri-business counseling. During his tenure as comptroller, his responsibilities expanded from a one-man, no telephone operation to a complex, highly professional business office whose daily services touched every facet of our institution's life. The 1967 naming of Winburn Hall was a logical tribute to a man whose memory certainly deserved such recognition. |
