First Year Live-On Requirement
First Year students who attend Georgia Southern University are required to live in on-campus housing during their first year of enrollment.
This policy, implemented in the Fall of 2009, requires all first year students to live in on-campus housing. Created after a careful review of national research into the academic, personal, and developmental benefits of on-campus living, the Georgia Southern University President’s Council determined that Georgia Southern would re-institute this requirement for all first year students.
The President’s Council also created several standing exemptions that students could use to request to be exempt from this policy. Students whose personal situation qualifies them for an exemption are not automatically granted one, but rather are given the choice of whether to live on-campus and receive the benefits of living on-campus or filing for an exemption. You may use the chart below to determine whether or not you are eligible for an exemption to the First Year Live-On Requirement. If you fall in the Exempt Column for any of the reasons below, you are able to request an exemption to the requirement.
