Facilities Student Assistant Job Description

Qualifications
  • Must be registered to take classes as a GSU student;
  • Must posses a valid driver's license in order to drive a university vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in a coherent manner.
  • Ability to understand and execute verbal instructions.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights of 45 feet above ground.
  • Must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and no pending judicial actions.
  • Undergo and pass a background check.
  • Posses a basic knowledge to complete some of the following tasks.
Overview
The Facilities staff student employee, under the direct supervision of a member of the Department of University Housing Facilities staff, will assist with the upkeep of the on campus residence halls. Possible duties include:
  1. Light cleaning: dusting, mopping, scraping, scrubbing, trash removal, and window washing.
  2. Vacuuming and/or shampooing carpets.
  3. Stripping, waxing, or buffing floors.
  4. Moving furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  5. Bunking and un-bunking beds.
  6. Painting, preparing and finishing work.
  7. Assisting the exterminator with the application of pesticides.
  8. Assist Maintenance I's and II's with minor projects.
  9. Assist in minor landscaping projects.
  10. Other projects as assigned by the supervisor.
Hours
Position will work a minimum of 15 hrs per week (Sunday through Saturday) and a maximum of 25 hrs depending on final budget allocations. It is preferable that work be scheduled in blocks of at least 4 hrs.

Remuneration
Facilities student staff is paid $5.85 an hour with time worked turned in every other Friday. Student employees are responsible for logging in time worked, submitting their hours to the person responsible and signing their time sheets as the payroll schedule indicates.

Expectations
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellent service and delivery or services.
  • Be courteous, helpful and attentive when dealing with students, parents, guests, DUH employees and other visitors to the office.
  • Support the standards established in DUH relating to personal appearance and work habits.
