Panhellenic Association Sorority Recruitment
Thank you for your interest in joining a Panhellenic Association (PHA) sorority at Georgia Southern University! Joining a Panhellenic organization is one of the most important decisions that you will make during your undergraduate years. Being a member of a Panhellenic sorority is a lifetime commitment, and we are happy you have chosen to look further into this opportunity.
Panhellenic chapters host a formal recruitment week before school starts each fall semester. This year the dates for Formal Panhellenic Recruitment are August 12 – 17, 2013.

The recruitment fee includes the participation fee of $70 (non-refundable) as well as the on-campus housing fee of $80 (refundable pending on circumstances). All students who plan on living on-campus must pay the on-campus fee. If you have a special circumstance, please call the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life or email us at greeks@georgiasouthern.edu.
This is the most common way to join one of our seven Panhellenic organizations. This process gives potential members the opportunity to learn about the all Panhellenic organizations on campus as well as their philanthropies, values and sisterhood bonds. Women have the opportunity to move into their assigned residence halls early, meet women in their residence halls living around them and visit with each chapter. If you are interested in joining a Panhellenic organization, we recommend that you participate in Formal Recruitment, as many chapters will reach their capacity during this process.
The other option and less likely option for joining a Panhellenic sorority is through Continuous Open Recruitment, which is an informal process that some, not all chapters may engage in. This is based on chapters who have available space will participate in this process throughout the academic year. If this interests you, please contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Relations to learn more information.
Students who are first-semester, freshman are able to join a fraternity in their first semester on campus with 2.75 or higher high school GPA. As you’re looking at your membership options, please keep in mind that some chapters may have higher GPA requirement for membership. Women who join with a high school GPA between 2.75 – 2.99 will participate in the Greek Incentive Program.
Current Georgia Southern students with an established GPA may join at any time of their collegiate careers with a Georgia Southern GPA of 2.50 or higher. As you’re looking at your membership options, please keep in mind that some chapters may have higher GPA requirement for membership.
Below are some additional pieces of information regarding membership in an PHA organization:
- East Georgia students are not eligible to join sororities.
- Students enrolled in the Georgia Tech program at Georgia Southern are eligible to join sororities.
- Grade requirements and hours are verified through the University.
- Letters of recommendation from alumnae are not usually required.
- Organizations can recruit members each semester, skip semesters, or participate once every other year. It is the decision of the individual fraternity when to accept members.
