National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

Thank you for your interest in the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) fraternities and sororities at Georgia Southern University! The NPHC is an organization consisting of nine Greek-lettered, African-American collegiate organizations collectively referred to as the “Divine Nine” and was created in an effort to unify Black Greek-lettered Organizations (BGLO). The National Pan-Hellenic Council was chartered May 10, 1930, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta. In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma joined. In 1937, Sigma Gamma Rho joined and the “Elite 8” was incorporated. In 1997, Iota Phi Theta joined and the “Divine Nine” was created. 

The Georgia Southern Chapter of the NPHC was chartered on November 10, 1999. NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings, and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions. The primary purpose and focus of NPHC member organizations remains community awareness and action through educational, economic, and cultural service activities.
