Financial Aid

GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL AID DEPARTMENT

IMPORTANT 2008 SUMMER FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION

It is important that you read and understand the following:

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SUMMER LOANS: If you are awarded a summer Stafford and/or PLUS loan(s), the funds will be disbursed to your account if you are enrolled at least half-time (6 hours undergraduate, 3 hours graduate) and have been verified as attending at least one class. Your class attendance in subsequent terms will be verified once those classes begin (for example, after June 23rd for term B). Once the loan(s) has/have disbursed, you will not be allowed to adjust (drop/delete) your class schedule to less than half-time enrollment. If you do not attend your class(es) in subsequent terms and fall below half-time enrollment as a result, you will receive a grade of "W" for the class(es).
  • If you need Financial Aid for Summer 2008, you must register for summer classes.  Once you register for summer classes, your financial aid will automatically be reviewed.  For your summer financial aid information, continue to check WINGS at: http://students.georgiasouthern.edu/finaid

  • Summer aid is based on your remaining financial aid eligibility for 07-08 and the number of hours in which you have registered for summer.

  • If you are a dependent student, have already received the maximum amount in loans as a student and you and your parent feel you need additional funds, apply for the William D. Ford Federal Direct PLUS Loan.  Applications can be printed from our website at http://students.georgiasouthern.edu/finaid

  • It is your responsibility to understand your financial aid eligibility.  If additional information is received (example: Outside Scholarship), your financial aid may be adjusted.  If the aid has already been disbursed to your Office of Student Fees account, you will be required to repay all funds for which you are no longer eligible.

  • No refund checks are available until approximately two weeks after your class attendance has been verified by your professor/instructor.

  • You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to receive your summer money.  Our office will check your grades and hours earned at the end of spring to determine if you are making SAP.

  • No loans, Federal Direct Stafford or PLUS, will be processed after June 30, 2008.

  • HOPE Scholarship is awarded at the rate of full-time tuition.  If you enroll less than full-time, HOPE Scholarship pays the cost of tuition for the number of hours enrolled plus $165 in fees for four or more hours or $38 in fees for less than four hours.  The HOPE Book Allowance will be $150 for six or more hours and $75 for five hours or less.

  • The University Bookstore credit, including HOPE Book Allowance, will be available from May 15, 2008 to May 28, 2008.

  • To receive HOPE Scholarship for summer, your application (GSFAPPS or 2007-2008 FAFSA) must be received on or before the last day of summer semester classes, which is July 23, 2008.

  • If you are awarded Summer financial aid and decide that you DO NOT want it, you MUST let us know by May 28, 2008!  Contact your financial aid counselor or email us at: finaid@georgiasouthern.edu.

**University policy requires all students to attend the first class meeting of all classes for which they are registered. Students who do not attend the first class meeting of a course for which they are registered will be dropped from the course. This policy applies to all levels of courses. It is the student's responsibility to verify course drops and check that fees are adjusted. If you have questions, contact the Registrar's Office at: http://students.georgiasouthern.edu/registrar/ . **
