Receiving Accommodation Letters
Students are trained to schedule an appointment to deliver accommodation letters to faculty members. We feel appointments are needed so that you have an opportunity to discuss accommodations and discuss where the accommodations on tests will be made. The SDRC will proctor your exams if you choose – and it is your choice.
Please keep the white pages of the packet. This is critical information and forms you will need to provide accommodations. Please sign the green Faculty Agreement Form and have the student return it to us.

Test Proctoring
Experience You Can Depend On - Our proctoring coordinator, Michelle Smith, is one of the most experienced staff members on campus. She has 20 years of experience administering and proctoring exams - first at the GSU Testing Office and for the last two years, here at the SDRC.
Test Security – our test proctoring lab has 12 testing booths equipped with one-way mirrors for monitoring. As students take exams, our staff of professionals and student employees provide the same level of monitoring that you provide in the classroom.
Academic Dishonesty – if a student is caught cheating, the test is collected and returned to you with a full written explanation. We then refer the case to Judicial Affairs. If we suspect a student is cheating, we collect the exam, return the exam to you with a written report and ask you to make the decision about the Judicial Affairs referral.
It’s Your Exam - decisions about exams are made using one overriding principle – the exam belongs to the professor. All of our actions will be based on that principle and we will not make any decisions for you.
The Need for Proctoring – as we learn more about disabilities, technology evolves to assist these students. We have the technology and the expertise to provide that technology at the SDRC. For that reason, we may have to proctor the majority of exams for you.
The Proctoring Process:
Since students may need exams enlarged, Brailed, or scanned for voice-activated software, it is important that we receive your exams at least 24 hours in advance. There are several ways to deliver the exams to us:
-Hand delivery by the instructor;
-Campus mail to P. O. Box 8037;
-E-mail to sdrc@georgiasouthern.edu
-We cannot accept exams via fax. The quality is very poor and results in student errors.
Some Important Points About Test Proctoring:
-Professor’s choice - You may choose to have the SDRC proctor exams for you. If you can provide the needed accommodations, you may do so.
-Student’s responsibility - It is the student’s responsibility to schedule their exams at the SDRC.
-Limited testing space - There may be times when accommodations cannot be made for the same day or time as the scheduled exams. This is especially true during finals.
-Late arrival - If the student shows up more than 30 minutes late for the scheduled exam, we will note the time of arrival on the exam when we return it to you. It will be your decision as to how this impacts the student’s grade.
-Exam Proctoring Notice (Click to View Form) – The notice must be included with each exam sent to the SDRC, giving full instructions for the exam. Please be aware that if instructions are not given for the return of the exam, the exam will be returned in campus mail.
Please encourage students with disabilities to make an appointment with you to sign their Accommodation Letter and go over their needed accommodations. If you have questions concerning test proctoring or test accommodations, please call me at 478-1432.
Questions or Concerns About Accommodations
Since the inception of the Americans with Disabilities Act, courts have recognized the expertise of faculty members. Because of that expertise, please let the SDRC know if you have concerns about accommodations.
Faculty Training Needs
The key to providing excellent services to students is a well-trained faculty. If your college or department would like training on different disabilities or on using the SDRC, please contact us for scheduling.
