Practicum for Master's Students

Along with the variety of services offered to all students at Georgia Southern University, the Counseling and Career Development Center serves as a graduate training facility for counselors in training in master's level programs in clinical psychology and counseling. In May of each year, students from these programs are invited to apply for practicum positions for the following academic year to fulfill the practice requirements for their degrees. A two semester, 10 hour per week practicum is offered that includes training in individual counseling and psychotherapy, weekly individual supervision, and participation in a training seminar.

The staff at the Counseling and Career Development enjoys training and supervising students, and we view these functions as an integral part of our mission. Graduate trainees play an important role in Center operations and are encouraged to actively participate in a variety of activities. Practicum students are trained to refine and further develop their clinical skills and function effectively in counseling center and similar settings.

If you are interested in learning more about the practicum, please contact the Assistant Director for Training at 478-5541.
