Scheduling
The University supports both Alternating and Parallel schedule plans for Cooperative Education:
In an Alternating Schedule, co-op students work full-time one semester and return to school the next. (One semester of work and one of school is called one rotation.) This plan continues for at least two rotations. The University requires students to commit to their co-op position for at least two rotations. In a Parallel Schedule, students take a limited number of courses for academic credit while maintaing part-time employment.
As the employer, you can require a longer commitment.
Student Requirements
Participants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for co-op at GSU:
- have and maintain a minimum 2.5 adjusted GPA,
- have completed at least 30 credit hours,
- have attended Georgia Southern for a minimum of one semester, and
- be available to participate in at least two work semester rotations
Some employers require a higher GPA and up to four work semesters. Co-op at Georgia Southern abides by the employer requirements. Additionally, students in any major can participate; however, the students most sought by employers major in engineering, technology, business administration, and computer science.
