| Career Assessments |
Career Services offers several assessment programs to Georgia Southern
students that evaluate the student's interests, skills, and values and
match them to careers best suited to their personality. A Career Advisor
is available to interpret the results of the assessment with the student
and assist students in making educated career decisions. Please call our

The following assessments are available on campus, in
most cases free of charge to students.

FOCUS provides students, adults in career transition,
and those planning for a retirement vocation with personalized career
and educational planning. It has been used in career service centers
nationwide for over 10 years. Self assessment tools guide you through
the career planning process that first helps you broaden your horizons,
and then, narrow down your occupational and educational choices. |

The Georgia Career Information Center, through
its Georgia Career Information System (GCIS), provides current and
accurate occupational and educational information to schools and agencies
throughout Georgia in order to help young people and adults make informed
career choices. |

Research-based assessments of career-relevant
interests, abilities, and job values help individuals consider career
options that are a good match for them. ACT's World-of-Work Map organizes
occupations into six clusters, parallel to Holland's Hexagon, to help
users focus on preparing for career options that fit them best. |

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® personality
assessment tool is a written instrument that "indicates"
a person's preferences. The four preferences result in a person's
psychological type, sometimes called personality type. Awareness of
preferences helps people understand and value others who think and
act quite differently. |

Whether you are looking for a college major, beginning
a job search, or thinking about a career change, the SDS will provide
valuable career information. Reports contain: a description of each
of the 6 RIASEC types (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social,
Enterprising, and Conventional); RIASEC types that most closely match
your interests; an explanation of how you can use your code in your
individual career planning;
a list of the occupations, fields of study, and leisure activities
that are consistent with your code; and next steps for you to follow
in your career exploration and decision-making process |

The Strong Interest Inventory measures your interests
in a broad range of
occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects
and
is effective in assisting you to determine your best career path.The
inventory also measures interest in careers requiring advanced technical
or college training. Three increasingly more detailed levels of Holland
coding is provided, including 6 General Occupational Themes, 26 Basic
Interest Scales and 109 Occupational Scales. |
