CASICS

Cannabis Abuse Screening and Intervention for College Students

What is it?

CASICS is a marijuana intervention program offered by the Office of Alcohol & Other Drugs Programs at Georgia Southern University. Participants meet 1-on-1 with a trained specialist who will help them to evaluate their own marijuana use, to identify personal risks and to plan ways to reduce consequences associated with their marijuana use. CASICS sessions are non-judgmental and are personalized to the interests and needs of the student.

How much does it cost?

CASICS is FREE for self-referred students. For sanctioned students, there is a fee of $50 for CASICS. This is included as part of your sanction from the Office of Student Conduct and can be paid at Deal Hall.

How long will it take?

CASICS consists of two sessions which are each approximately 45 minutes in length. However, the second session is typically shorter than the first. There should be one week between the first and second sessions.

Where will it take place?

CASICS sessions are held in Room 2022 of the Russell Union.

Why should I take CASICS?

CASICS is a great service for students looking to reduce their marijuana use or to reduce the consequences associated with their marijuana use. Students completing CASICS will work with a trained intervention specialist to assess their use, identify risk factors and plan appropriate changes.

Is it confidential?

CASICS sessions are completely confidential.

Can I use this to meet my court/probation requirement?

With the permission of the student, the Office of Alcohol & Other Drugs Programs can provide a letter verifying completion of the CASICS program. In some cases, this can be used to satisfy legal obligations. Please contact 912-478-2462 for more information on using CASICS for legal purposes.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Please call 912-478-0108 to schedule an appointment. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8AM – 5PM.
