Lead Scholarship Application


To apply for the Southern Leaders Program and associated scholarships, students must:

  • Complete the MyScholarships application for Georgia Southern University through the Office of Admissions.
  • Complete the specific opportunity labeled “Southern LEAD Scholarship” within the MyScholarships portal.
  • Thoroughly complete the application, listing all information about your leadership experience, initiatives, recognition, and any additional information that would be helpful for the selection committee. Make sure you include detailed listings of your involvement.
  • Complete the MyScholarships application and specific opportunity labeled “Southern Lead Scholarship” by February 1, 2016.

Students who are awarded the Lead Scholarship will:

  • Be awarded a $1,000 scholarship ($500 for the fall semester, $500 for the spring semester) for their first-year.
  • Enroll in LEAD 1000: Self-Leadership in Fall Semester.
  • Participate in Southern Leaders Coaching, a peer mentoring program, in Fall Semester.
  • Meet in the Fall Semester with a team member in the Leadership & Community Engagement office.
  • Earn a grade point average of at least 3.0 in Fall Semester.
  • Enroll in LEAD 2000: Collaborative Leadership in Spring Semester.

Students who are awarded the Southern Leaders Fellows Award will:

  • Be awarded a $1,500 scholarship ($750 for the fall semester, $750 for the spring semester) for two years.
  • Enroll in LEAD 1000: Self-Leadership in the Fall Semester of their freshman year.
  • Participate in Southern Leaders Coaching, a peer mentoring program, in Fall Semester of their freshman year.
  • Enroll in LEAD 2000: Collaborative Leadership in Spring Semester of their freshman year.
  • Enroll in LEAD 3000: Community Leadership in the Fall Semester of their sophomore year.
  • Participate in a cohort-specific Alternative Break.
  • Participate in a 2nd year retreat focused on their Southern Leaders Leadership Legacy projects.
  • Meet each semester with a team member in the Leadership & Community Engagement office.
  • Maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
