Southern Leaders & Leadership Scholarships
High school students who are driven and ready to step forward to engage in a college career filled with purpose are encouraged to apply to the Southern Leaders Program. Students in Southern Leaders engage in interactive leadership courses, tackle community issues through service, and develop special projects that leave a lasting positive impact. Freshmen admission into the Southern Leaders program can occur through the MyScholarships application or from BUILD Leader nominations (for students that also attend BUILD). Only students that apply for the Southern Leaders Program through the MyScholarships application are eligible for the Lead Scholarship or the Southern Leaders Fellows award. Acceptance into the program is carefully reviewed and only a select number of those accepted will receive leadership scholarships.
The Lead Scholarship annually awards 35 qualified incoming freshmen with a one-time award of $1,000. Qualifying experiences include prior leadership, volunteerism, and enthusiasm to become a leader at Georgia Southern University. The Lead Scholarship is one way we reward incoming students for their leadership experience prior to coming to Georgia Southern University and for their potential for leadership when they arrive on campus. Georgia Southern University provides an environment where you’ll learn, grow, and develop as a leader.
Southern Leaders Fellows
The Southern Leaders Fellows are academically high-achieving students with demonstrated leadership in their high schools and communities. These students also possess potential for leadership during college and beyond as demonstrated by a clearly articulated desire to grow as a leader and a passion to serve and to make a difference in the lives of others. Southern Leaders Fellows will be awarded $1,500 a year for two years.
